Beauty Empties // Vol. 1

I always enjoy watching “empties” videos on YouTube and reading about other bloggers’ beauty trash, so I thought I would finally join the fun!

Batiste Dry Shampoo // So, I finally tried out this much-beloved dry shampoo amongst bloggers. While it is a good dry shampoo, I wasn’t overly impressed with it. I heavily rely on dry shampoo to give my hair some texture and grit, and this just didn’t do that. However, this particular formula did do a great job at absorbing oil and helping extend the wear of my hair between washes. I probably won’t be repurchasing this in the near future, but it’s still a good option.

NARS Pro-Prime Smudge-Proof Eyeshadow Base // This tube of primer has lasted me a ridiculously long time – I’m sad that I’m finally out of it! You’ve heard me say this before, but this stuff seriously is like eyelid glue. My shadows – powder or cream – never budge when I start with this as a base. I definitely will invest in another tube of this product – it’s a must-have for us with oily eyelids.

Maybelline Define-a-Brow // I’ve been going through these pencils like no tomorrow – it’s a good thing they are so cheap! This pencil has basically replaced my beloved Anastasia Brow Wiz in an attempt to save a few dollars. I love how tiny and slim the pencil is so I can get a precise, outlined brow.

MAC Pro Longwear Concealer // I may have finished a bottle of this concealer, but I’ve long since started a new bottle. This is one of those products that I truly cannot sacrifice in my makeup collection; I only started using it last year and haven’t looked back since. It’s full coverage and blends seamlessly under my eyes for a smooth, flawless finish.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Clear Brow Gel // I used points at Sephora a while back to get this product as a freebie. I’ve heard so much about this brow gel, so I had to try it for myself before committing to the full size and price. While it is a great brow gel, I really didn’t find it helpful in keeping my brows in place any better than some clear mascara from the drugstore. And, that’s coming from a gal that has pretty thick and long eyebrows. It was nice to try the product for free, but I don’t think I could bring myself to pay full price for this brow gel.

Benefit it’s Potent! Eye Cream // Seeing as this is the only eye cream I’ve ever tried and owned, I don’t have much to compare it to. That being said, however, I love this eye cream. The formula isn’t too thick but not too light either; it does a fantastic job of hydrating my under eye area, and I’ve even seen an improvement in my dark circles since I’ve been using this product. I think I’m going to look into trying a different eye cream, but I’m sure I’ll come back to this one in the future.

So happy the concealer was a repurchase for you, since I just picked it up!! I've tried the benefit eye cream when they apply it in the store and I just love the cooling effect of it…might need to make it my next eye cream!!

I love that concealer!! I've used that MAC concealer for like 3 years and I just can't give it up. And I haven't tried Batiste yet but I think I might skip it if you weren't impressed!

I guess the only products I always use and repurchase are L'Oreal mascara and Biolage Volume XL shampoo – I've tried others in these categories but these are the ones that work for me. Sometimes you just have to try a product and judge it for yourself!

  • Love your HONEST product reviews! Very helpful! I cannot live without dry shampoo. I use it like you do…to give my clean hair a little texture and to extend my dirty hair a day (or two!). Which brand is your favorite? My go-tos are Oscar Blandi and DryBar.

  • Love hearing your reviews! Is the define a brow just an eyebrow pencil?

  • Great reviews!! Thank you so much for sharing them!! I have been using that NARS eyeshadow base for a few years and I love it. 🙂 When I'm done with my current concealer, I'm going to try that MAC one since I've heard so many good things about it. I hope that you are having a great day so far too! 🙂

  • I ran out of my Benefit stay flawless 16 hour primer the other week, and I was seriously scraping the container waiting for my 20% off Ulta coupon, luckily I just made it and was able to restock this past weekend! I have to get on that MAC concealer, once it's safe to brave woodfield again!

  • It's a fantastic eye cream – I really enjoyed it! You will LOVE the Mac concealer, I promise!

  • Right?! I'll never be able to give up that concealer now. I just go a fresh bottle of my holy grail Suave dry shampoo, and I just don't think anything will ever compare to that for me!

  • Exactly! It's fun to experiment with new things.

  • I'm so glad you found these helpful! My holy grail dry shampoo is from Suave – cheap and extremely effective! I've never tried the DryBar one, but I bet it's good.

  • Yes, ma'am! It has a little comb/brush on the opposite end.

  • The MAC concealer is a great one – you won't be disappointed!

  • That's the best when you run out of something but are able to go get it again right away! I need to try that primer again – I've heard nothing but good things, but I originally tried it when I was having skin issues, and that just made it worse. And yeah – don't you dare brave Woodfield right now!

  • thanks for the honest review! I've never tried dry shampoo but that type everyone seems to be raving about!

and i gotta try the benefit it's potent eye cream!!

  • Oh my gosh, I bought my first MAC concealer two weeks ago after hearing about it nonstop and desperately going through drugstore concealers left and right that were crappy. I've never been so impressed and so willing to spend $22 on a tiny bottle of magic! It's amazing 🙂 I'll never go back!

  • What dry shampoo do you use? I've been using the suave because the batistie didn't really work for me.

I'm still struggling on finding the best dry shampoo… Everyone needs the MAC concealer, it's something I will never stop purchasing either!

  • I wasn't super impressed with the Anastasia brow gel either – I'm totally hooked on Benefit's Gimme Brow now. SO much better! I'm a big fan of the Batiste dry shampoo but I've only tried a couple so I don't have much to compare it to. What's your favorite one? My fine, limp hair needs all the help it can get!

  • Jessi Otey

ooo I think I'll try the maybeliine one for brows now!!

  • I feel like dry shampoos can be tricky, they vary so much from person to person depending on hair type & desired results. You know I love Batiste, but I don't really use it for volume (unless it's the XXL one) so I can see why it wouldn't be your favourite! That eye cream sounds intruiging. I'm almost done my Origins one and I'll be looking for a new one soon, like you this is the only one I've tried so I'm interested to see what else is out there!

  • Kristy Simon

Good to know about the NARS. I specialize in oily lids.

  • It was a decent dry shampoo – not my favorite but worth trying!

  • Hooray for another MAC Pro Longwear concealer convert! Isn't it the best?! It's one of those can't-live-without makeup products for me.

  • The Suave dry shampoo is my absolute favorite.

  • Nothing compares to the Suave dry shampoo for me, but I'm always open and willing to try others. And yes, everybody needs the MAC concealer!

  • Haha – that's a genius way of looking at what products you use the most. 🙂 I need to try out that NYX concealer based on your recommendation!

  • My all-time favorite is the good 'ol Suave dry shampoo – it's cheap, and I love the scent. It seriously gives my long, fine, stick-straight hair so much volume and texture. I'm always thrilled when I go back to using it after trying something else out!

  • You absolutely should! It's a great brow product.

  • You're so right about dry shampoos varying from person to person – it all depends on your head of hair! It sounds like you and I are going to do a flip flop of eye creams since I now want to try the Origins one!

  • Yes, you need it.

I never really liked the Benefit eye cream, my favourite is the Korres Quercetin & Oak Antiageing Eye cream. I find it very effective and it has a perfect pump top that actually manages to get all of the product out. It's a bit pricey, but it took me a whole year of use to use up.

  • So excited you are doing empties now! Love that conealer – it works like a dream.

  • I thought it was just me! I've tried at least 5 different dry shampoos, but the suave works best on my hair. Go figure. The $2.50 product is the best.

  • I go through my NYX concealer and the a redken dry shampoo all the times which now let's me know I need to get to bed early and actually wake up on time 😉
