January Beauty Favorites

I was lovin’ on some new products throughout the past month, as well as reincorporating a few items back into my daily routine that were otherwise stashed in the back of my vanity drawers.

Real Techniques Blush Brush //  It’s a good thing that this brush lived up to my expectations – after searching for it for months, I finally snagged the last one at Kohl’s of all places! Regardless, this brush is soft, fluffy and applies product like a dream. My blush has never blended into my skin so seamlessly.

IT Cosmetics Naturally Pretty Palette // It’s been quite the love affair between I and this palette recently. For someone who wears almost exclusively matte eyeshadows on a daily basis, it’s great to have a matte-only palette that still offers a variety of shades. The pink and taupe shades have been getting the most use (surprise, surprise), but I look forward to a special night out in the near future where maybe I can incorporate one of the darker shades.

MAC Satin Lipstick in Viva Glam II // An oldie but a goodie, this lipstick was a rediscovered favorite of mine this month. It falls into the perfect nude lip category, but it has an ever so-slight pinkish, mauve undertone that keeps your lips from looking completely washed out. My only complaint about this lipstick is that the formula is rather heavy, which can cause my lips to feel goopy if too much is applied and get dried out during the day – applying a hydrating lip balm before putting on this lipstick helps remedy both these issues.

L’Oreal Nail Lacquer in 700 Aux Chandelles // If you remember from my recent drugstore haul, this perfect-gray polish shade sucked me in at one of the displays. I’ve worn this almost exclusively since I purchased it (see my other favorite nail polish shade below), and L’Oreal continues to impress me with the formula and staying-power of their polishes.

O.P.I. Nail Laquer in Mimosas for the Mr. and Mrs. // Thanks to Ashley, I may have found my new favorite light pink nail polish. The color can be worn year round and goes with nearly anything. It does take a few coats to get an opaque finish, so don’t be discouraged if the application starts off streaky.

Neutrogena Healthy Skin Liquid Makeup // Another tried and true favorite in my collection – I can’t believe there was a point in time where I hated this stuff – this foundation has been essential for me and my dry skin. When used with a primer and setting powder, the staying power keeps me fresh until late afternoon without accentuating any dry spots or causing my skin to look oily. This is one of those secret gems of the drugstore – I can’t recommend it enough.

Maybelline Master Conceal Camouflaging Concealer // I only purchased this product a couple weeks ago, but it’s now my go-to concealer for blemishes and dark spots. The formula is thick but still creamy and non-drying, and it’s very easy to blend the product into bare skin or on top of foundation so it’s undetectable. I also find the color range to be spot on, most having a yellow or neutral undertone – I wear Light/Medium for reference.

I need that nail polish in my life…I've been on the hunt for the perfect light pink!! I also want to try the drug store mascara you mentioned….i have a couple dark spots that come up randomly and my current concealer doesn't do much against it! xo, Biana – BlovedBoston

  • I've always wanted to try Neutrogena's make up, but make face doesn't take well to new products very well. Might just have to take the plunge. I need that blush brush!!

Some great looking products today! I might have to check out that concealer!

  • Love those polish colors, if only there was a light pink that didn't take so many coats! I'm on the hunt for some new make up brushes to add to my collection, I will have to check this one out!

  • Mia- MakeMeUpMia

That brush is the bomb! I need to try that concealer, I've never even seen it!

  • I swear by Real Technique brushes! I have tons of different brands but always go back to those… and you can't beat the price! Definitely going to pick up that nail color, I love a good pale pink polish 🙂

  • I'm so glad you finally found that brush – it is an essential part of my collection now! I totally forgot about that Neutrogena foundation, I remember hearing such great things about it a few years ago. Officially adding it to my shopping list for next time I'm in the US!

  • I need to try these nail polish shades! Thank you!

  • Yes! I have been obsessed with that palette. It has the most gorgeous colors.

  • I think you'd like it! It's even creamy enough to use under your eyes.

  • Right?! Unless it's a hot pink, it does take a while to get the lighter pinks to be opaque. Oh well – it's the price we are willing to pay I suppose. 🙂

  • It's the perfect pink! I have a few other RT brushes, but nothing compares to the blush brush. It's amazing!

  • I can understand why so many of you swear by that brush blush now – I don't think I'll ever be without it now! I think you'd enjoy the Neutrogena foundation, I wish it was more accessible to you in Canada!

  • I think you'd love the blush brush – it's a fantastic tool, and you can't beat the price.

  • Just checked out that eye shadow palette, so pretty. My blush brush is really old and looks horrible. It also sheds on my face sometimes. Guess this means that I need to pick that one up! That polish is pretty too. Thanks for sharing!! 🙂

  • I can't believe I didn't have that brush in my collection until recently! Such an amazing tool. And, that concealer is fairly new, so keep an eye out for it! I found mine at Target.

  • I think you'd enjoy that concealer! It's a fairly new product, and it does the job just as well as the MUFE concealer that I've used for so long.

  • Neutrogena products are great for sensitive skin, so I wouldn't think you'd have an issue!

  • I love the real techniques brushes, but only have one. I think it's time to invest in some more!

  • Absolutely!

  • I need to find that L'Oreal polish! It looked so pretty on your nails, I thought it was similar to Eiffel For You, but I think this one is more blue and less purple…sooo naturally different enough that I need it 🙂

  • I love reading makeup reviews especially ones that involve such a span like this. That brush looks awesome and definitely love that L'oreal polish!!

  • Tif Fannin

So, I didn't realize until I started investigating some that L'Oreal actually owns Essie. That could be why their polish works so well. I love the color you picked up in it!

  • Yes! They are fabulous quality brushes, and you can't beat the price.

  • Haha, absolutely! I would never not encourage someone to buy more nail polish. 🙂

  • Thanks, girl – I'm glad you like these reviews! That brush is seriously everything to me now – not sure how I did without it for so long.

  • Really?! That's a fun fact of the day. 🙂 That actually cracks me up because I don't particularly like Essie polish, but I love L'Oreal polishes.

  • Yes! It's a fantastic concealer – I don't think you'll be disappointed. xo

  • I've been looking for a new concealer, so I definitely need to check out this one from Maybelline – I love a good drug store find! xoxo

  • Great round-up! I love that OPI nail color, too 🙂 So pretty!
