Things That Thrill Me

With the unofficial arrival of summer, I’m always looking for fresh, lighter options for dinner. This grilled Caesar buffalo chicken salad looks like something not only me, but Ryan also, would devour.

We’ve been trying to figure out what to do about tables in our family
room for a few months now – I’m lucky enough that my dad is building us
a custom coffee table, and instead of side tables, I think we’re going
to opt for an easy DIY sofa table to match our wannabe-farmhouse style aesthetic.

Not only am I thrilled to have finally discovered Caitlin’s blog and incredible style, I’m obsessed with this blue and white breezy top with denim shorts that she wore in the past – perfect for summer.

Although I graduated college four years ago (already? yikes!), I always enjoy hearing what life lessons come out of the yearly commencement speeches from celebrities and political figures – this year had a great line up.

Give me a fluffy yellow cake with blueberries in it and a side of vanilla ice cream any day – yum!

Okay, I have to do a little hair rant here. I have SO appreciated all the kind comments the past week about my new ‘do – you’ve all definitely given me a boost of confidence! I’ll admit that the cut is a tad shorter than what I was expecting, and I’m not overly thrilled with it. Seriously, why is it so difficult to bring in nearly 20 pictures of the length that you’re looking for AND thoroughly explain that I still want it on the longer side, but then I walk out with a collarbone-length cut? This makes zero sense to me. Alas, I’ve decided to start making the 45-minute trek back to our old town to have my amazing stylist there take care of everything from now on – apparently, it’s worth it! On the upside, my hair does grow pretty quick, thanks to genetics and Biotin supplements, so I’m keeping this length in mind as a (hopefully) soon end-result.

With how versatile a denim jacket and a chambray shirt are, it never occurred to me to pair the two pieces together – I’m pretty sure this is going to be my new go-to weekend uniform.

I’m a huge fan of Lauren Scruggs Kennedy and her husband, E! correspondent Jason Kennedy, and this interview was a great read and super inspirational.

Sometimes, I want to have a party or host a get-together solely so I can try out some new appetizer recipes – these fried rosemary mozzarella balls are definitely going to be on a future menu.

  • So I'm gonna age myself but I graduated from college 10 years ago! Eek!

Your hair looks great and will grow out sooner than you think!

  • Sorry that you are not liking your hair that much. 🙁 But hey, like you said, it will grow back and you will get it fixed so it will be OK! 🙂 Oh a happier note, that blueberry thing sounds delicious and I have been following Catilin's blog for a while now. She always has great outfits. And don't feel old. I graduated from college 12 years ago!! 🙂

  • I think you look beautiful! And hair does grow really fast! Thank goodness. I've had more than my fair share of haircuts I hated. Thanks for all the great links!

  • I hear you with the hair – definitely happened to me when I chopped it off. I'm like seriously, is it this short in the pictures I showed you, NO! At least 45 min isn't too bad, since it's only every so often. That cake looks delicious, can't wait to see what you do in the family room!

  • I love the new hair! But i understand the frustration when it's not quite what you want! Great picks!

  • I pinned those same mozzarella balls this week! They look unreal – now I just need an excuse to make them, too 😉 And I feel you on the hair. I think it's always worth the extra drive or money to go to someone who knows exactly what you want. After all, your hair is the one thing you wear every single day!

So sorry you aren't thrilled with your hair girl, that stinks! I love Lauren & Jason as well, heading to read that now 🙂

I love commencement speech season! And this round up is ON point 🙂 xx

  • I know what you mean about being wary with your hair – if you can believe it I had a stylist cut my hair into something that almost could pass as a mullet once and was completely devastated. Now I'm so picky about cuts! I really think yours looks amazing though! It seems like you've picked up really quickly how to style it just right!

Yum buffalo chicken AND caesar salad combined – sounds like a sure hit for our house! I love that your dad’s building your coffee table for you guys – so special! I was just reminiscing last week about how I graduated four years ago too – how does the time go so quickly?! While I really do love your new hair – I feel you on the length – around Thanksgiving I got a ton chopped off and the girl went way too short – luckily my hair grows quickly too and biotin is just about the best thing ever! Your locks will be back to the way YOU want them in no time. This is just getting so long now but I LOVE Lauren and Jason; they are so inspiring!

I really enjoyed reading the commencement speeches, a lot of wisdom and good advice not just for graduates, but all of us! I can tell you that your table is almost complete and I think you're going to love it!

I am loving all of these! Those mozzarella balls look delicious! Xo, Stephanie
