Airbrush makeup has been all the rage for a while now, especially for weddings and special occasions. My only experience with airbrush makeup up until this point was for a wedding that I stood up in last summer, and I was less than impressed (I wrote a lengthy blog post about it here).
When I recently was contacted by Luminess Air to test one of their at-home airbrush makeup systems, I was both excited and hesitant – I loved the idea of having my own airbrush kit where I am in control of the products and application opposed to someone else applying it for me, but I was nervous that I would feel oily and greasy within minutes like I did the last time I tried airbrush makeup.
Well, I’m happy to report that I am beyond impressed with this system and the products!
For starters, how stinkin’ cute is the actual system itself?! I opted for the kit in white so it looks clean and professional, and I initially couldn’t believe how small it was – perfect for traveling! In addition to the airbrush system and wand, I also received the starter kit in fair, which includes a primer/moisturizer, four shades of foundation (I chose the matte formula), a bottle of blush, and a bottle of glow/highlighter.
A quick note worth mentioning about the makeup products themselves is that they are ideal for practically any skin type – they are water-based, oil-,fragrance-,paraben-, and gluten-free, and hypoallergenic, which is important for women like myself with sensitive skin. There also are four different finishes of foundation that you can choose from based on your skin needs and makeup preferences – silk, ultra, satin or matte. There really is something for everybody from this product line.
Application of airbrush makeup definitely is an adjustment and takes some time to get used to – trust me, there was a lot of trial and error as I was getting the hang of it. The key is to hold the wand a decent length away from your face – approximately six inches or so – and to continuously move your hand in small circular motions as you apply the product all over your face. Once you’ve mastered that technique, you’re left with flawless, even skin. Oh, and the best part? No harsh foundation lines around the jawline!
Luminess Air claims that the airbrush makeup lasts up to 18 hours; well, I haven’t tested it for that length of time, but I did wear it through full days of work and errands and the staying power is definitely there. I do still set the airbrush makeup with a light dusting of setting powder and setting spray, but I didn’t notice any visible disappearance or sliding of the foundation throughout the day.
I’m glad that I decided to give airbrush makeup another try, and I’m even more excited that I now have this professional system at the convenience of my own fingertips!
