Holiday Questionnaire

‘Twas the night before Christmas Eve … who else can’t believe that we’re finally here? It has gone by way too fast (and has been way too hectic for my liking), so I’m taking the time today to fill out this fun holiday questionnaire that Jenn put together!
A holiday tradition | Growing up, we always got to open one gift on Christmas Eve – it always was from my mom, and it always was new Christmas pajamas to wear for the next day’s festivities. Now that Ryan and I typically celebrate Christmas Eve at home just the two of us, we buy our pajamas ahead of time to wear while we open our gifts that night!

What you’d like to see Santa bring you most this year | To be honest, I don’t even remember a lot of what I asked for – ha! I’m happy just to spend time with my family since we don’t get to do that very often anymore.

Your go-to stocking stuffer | Candy! I rarely eat candy during the year, so I let myself indulge (and share the gift of indulgence with others!) during the holiday season.

Hardest person to shop for during the holidays | Hands down, my dad is the hardest to shop for – he’s a Christmas baby, so I have to buy both Christmas and birthday gifts. Plus, he’s very specific in what he likes, so I have to get creative each year so I don’t always repeat gifts.

Favorite winter accessory | Scarves are my go-to accessory period, but I especially love them during this time of year since I can wear heavier, chunkier ones. Plus, they serve dual purpose in keeping me warm and stylish.

Christmas tree lights: multicolored or all white? | Both! Our tree in the living room (that you can see from outside through the big window in the front of our house) has all white lights for a more formal look, while we have multicolored lights on our family room tree so it’s more fun and playful with all our personal ornaments that we’ve collected through our childhood and as a couple.

Favorite holiday cocktail | Prosecco with pomegranate juice

Favorite holiday food | Do cookies count? Otherwise, my sister always makes some delicious cheese spread that I can’t scarf into my mouth fast enough.

Do you have a good white elephant gift idea? | You can thank my dad for this one – a figurine of an elephant painted white. Ha!

Do you have a funny picture of you as a kid with Santa? | My mom claims that she has one, but I’ve never seen it. I’m actually terrified of Santa, so if there is a photo, I’m sure I’m not too happy.

Do you like candy canes? | I guess, it’s not my first treat that I reach for this time of year. I do enjoy the occasional Starburst flavored candy canes, though.

Hot chocolate: marshmallows or no? | I’m more of a whipped cream with a side of hot chocolate kind of gal. 🙂

Favorite holiday song | Judy Garland’s rendition of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas

Favorite holiday movie | It’s a tie between White Christmas and Meet Me In St. Louis.

A funny holiday story | My brother and I used to do last-minute Christmas shopping when I was home from school, and he was on leave from the Navy. One year, every time we walked into a different store, the same damn Johnny Mathis Christmas song immediately came on. We couldn’t escape the song all day, and it has become one of the funniest memories and inside jokes that my brother and I have.

My brother, Gary, and me on Christmas Eve, 2010 (look at that hair, makeup and outfit – ha!)

Have you ever been on a sleigh ride? | Sadly, no – maybe someday when we visit New York City during the holidays!

A fun holiday memory | I will never forget going to see a special production of the Nutcracker in Chicago. I don’t remember what ballet company it was, but I will never forget how they had a Christmas tree that actually grew to be super big just like in the story. I thought it was so magical! This year’s Nutcracker in the Castle is a close second in new favorite holiday memories and traditions.

On that note, I am signing off for the remainder of the week to enjoy the rest of Ryan’s vacation and to celebrate Christmas, of course! I wish all of you the happiest of holidays!
