Dining Room Design Plans (Revisited)

After finishing up our closet mudroom, Ryan and I knew that the next big room in the house that we wanted to tackle was the formal living room and dining room. Since this space essentially is one big, open room (check out our house tour for more photos), we are focusing on one space at a time as if the rooms had more separation between them. So, first up is the dining room!

Around this time last year, I shared some initial design inspiration and thoughts of how I wanted the room to look – well, a lot has changed since then. As I’m sure you can guess from a couple of the room reveals that I’ve shared so far, I’m very much into the refined, rustic farmhouse feel (think Fixer Upper, duh). We toyed around with the idea of painting the rooms different colors to differentiate them even more, but we ultimately opted to go with one color since the space is so open, and we didn’t want anything to be disjointed. Alpaca from Sherwin Williams is what we went with, which also is the same color that our family room is painted (I swear that room reveal is coming in the next couple weeks!).

We snagged this farmhouse-style dining table from Wayfair when it was in stock and on sale, and that really has set the mood for this room. I’m hoping to add black Windsor-style chairs (these arm chairs and side chairs are my favorite – fingers crossed they are in stock soon!), which would go great with the black chandelier that we recently picked up from Lowe’s.

For wall decor, I’d like to keep things simple. These ivory Pottery Barn curtains and this gate wall decor from Pier 1 (I linked to a similar one!), both of which currently reside in the family room, will be moving to the dining room since the ivory looks better with the off-white table. I also hope that I can find a skinny enough console table to use as a buffet, and I may add some mirrors opposite the window in the room to reflect even more light than the room already receives.

Like all our other home projects, I will be excited to share the finished room with you when it’s complete!
