Open-Back Crisscross Details

As I’m sure you can figure out from any of the outfits that I share on the blog, I don’t wear anything too revealing. My whole philosophy is that I know what I have, and I don’t feel the need to show it off to anybody that is willing to look. However, it’s a whole different story when it comes to open-back details.

I’ve always been game for back details – back in high school, you couldn’t get me to buy a formal dress unless it had an open back or crisscross straps. Now, with open back and off-the-shoulder tops in their comeback season, it’s refreshing to wear something where I am covered in the front but still showing a little hint of somethin’. I mean, maybe it’s just me, but there is something subtly alluring about an exposed back. Remember Hilary Swank when she shut it down at the Oscars in the navy blue dress with the plunging back? I’d argue that anybody has yet to top that moment.

This tee from Betsy Boo’s Boutique is a match made for me. First things first, it’s neutral and has stripes – exactly what I need more of in my wardrobe … okay, not so much, but I can’t resist! Add that winning combination to the fun, open back crisscross details in the back, and I now have my new favorite top. It’s lightweight and airy, so it’s perfect for the last couple weeks of warm summer weather, but it also will transition well to fall with a jean jacket or cardigan. Sizing tip: this runs pretty big! I’m wearing a small, and I probably could’ve gotten away with sizing down to an XS.

Are you a fan of open-back clothing or back details?

I do remember that Hillary Swank dress – so gorgeous on her!! I love this top on you – I think it shows just the right amount of skin…which I’m with you on – I have not been showing as much as I’ve gotten older LOL! xo, Biana –BlovedBoston

I really love this entire look on you, including your hair! Perfect for the last days of summer!

  • I’m a big fan of open back details! When I was in high school I saw a girl wear a sparkly blue gown to prom and the whole back was little strappy crisscross and to this day I have never seen a more beautiful dress.

  • Such a pretty top, obsessed with the criss-cross detail in the back <3

  • I am not into super revealing pieces either, so I love options like this. Unique detailing makes things stand out. Love this with your white denim!

  • this top is so cute! i don’t think i own any open back or anything like that, not because i dislike them or anything. you look just as fabulous as hilary swank did in that dress! haha. but for real, she looked absolutely amazing.

    • OMG, stop. Haha. I don’t hold a candle to Hilary Swank, but I hope everyone got what I was referring to by saying that. I seriously thinks that one of the best red carpet moments ever because it was unexpected and daring but still so classy and chic.

Your right there is something so subtle about an open back. I wish that subtle exposure was more the norm and not the exception. You look great in that top
