5 Home Projects We Hope to Accomplish in 2017

Now that we’re into the first whole week of February, I realized that this is the longest break that Ryan and I have taken from home renovation projects in more than a year. While we’re slowly working on all the elements of our master bedroom makeover, we haven’t actually done anything since before Thanksgiving. For us, that’s a long time! So, in true Karly fashion, I compiled a list of 5 home projects we hope to accomplish in 2017. Because nothing is more motivating than a honey-do list, right? πŸ˜‰

5 Home Projects We Hope to Accomplish in 2017 neutral farmhouse dining room decor

| Master bedroom and closet. As you already know, our master bedroom is our first project for 2017! I shared our design plans in this post. We already have purchased a few of the big ticket items, such as our headboard. But before I can get to the fun decorating stuff, we need to get the walls repainted and crown molding and new baseboards installed. We also hope to gut our walk-in closet and install a new organization system.

| Paint the upstairs and install new carpet. The entire upstairs is a reminder of what the downstairs used to look like. Semi-gloss white walls and ceilings and LOTS of dark oak wood. Nothing a little paint can’t fix! We’d also love to replace all the upstairs carpet. We’re almost confident that the current carpet is original to the house, so 20+ years old … yikes. Ideally, I’d like to carry our downstairs flooring through the upstairs but since this isn’t our forever home, I’m willing to compromise. Fresh, clean carpet will make a world of difference and will be slightly easier on our budget.

| Laundry room. The laundry room is the only space on the first floor of our house that we haven’t redone! The door always is closed, so nobody really sees this room except us. But, we are anxious to give the room a makeover. It really doesn’t need much besides paint and a couple new cabinets. A low-cost, time-efficient renovation? Now we’re talking.

| Master bathroom renovation. I’m honestly not sure if this is feasible for 2017, but oh gosh, what I wouldn’t give to have a new, pretty master bathroom right about now! Ours is so outdated, and it’s not functional in the way that we’d like to use it. This is the only other project in our house that we have to hire out for, so sometime in the near future we want to have someone come talk to us about a cost estimate. Given the cost of living in our town, it might be more doable than we realize – even after coming off our kitchen renovation!

| New deck and backyard landscaping. We tackled the front yard landscaping last summer, so now it’s time for the backyard. We need all new shrubs and plants, and we also plan to rip out the current deck to build a new one. This project gives us something to look forward to when the weather turns nice.

There you have it, our 5 home projects that we hope to accomplish in 2017. Home posts are my absolute favorite to write and share these days. I actually recently was interviewed by Pella Windows & Doors, and our kitchen renovation was featured on their blog! So, thank you for the opportunity to share our projects and for following along on our journey as we turn this house into our perfect modern farmhouse!

    • That is so sweet, I appreciate that! We’re definitely working hard and hope it pays off in the long run.

  • You and your husband are going to give Chip & Jo a run for their money! πŸ˜‰ I’m sure that you will get most of these projects crossed off of your list too. πŸ™‚ Your kitchen and dining room look amazing too!

  • So many fun projects on the horizion for you guys! I can’t wait to see your bedroom once you start working on it, and so awesome you were interviewed and featured with Pella!

    • I’m so anxious to get started on the bedroom, but it might have to wait now until we get home from vacation (we leave at the end of the month). The first month of the year just got away from us!

  • Debra Stachelski

Knowing you and Ryan, you will tackle all these projects and accomplish them too! And I’m sure everything will look as terrific as everything else you’ve done so far! I’m looking forward to what your plans are for the backyard, you already have such a nice view.

    • I probably will be seeking out your help and advice with the backyard. Luckily, I don’t think we have to do too much.

  • I can’t wait to see everything you do! Everything thus far has been stunning.

Congrats on the interview – that is super awesome!!!

  • I always love your home reno projects, you have such a great eye for design! Can’t wait to see how your master turns out! <3, Pamela Sequins & Sea Breezes

  • I’m excited to see what you do with the laundry room. I’ve been asking H for a counter top in ours so I can fold clothes in there instead of the bed for the longest time *sigh*. Will definitely be stalking your pics <3

I can’t wait to see how all of these turn out! For my place I really want to make my bedroom feel more complete. I really cannot figure out what to do with it due to it being a little smaller so it’s going to be a challenge!

    • Girl, figuring out our master bedroom has been the struggle of my life. My biggest advice is to just take your time and pick out pieces you really love. Plus, smaller rooms mean extra coziness!

  • I can’t wait to see the finished results! Y’all are such a good home remodeling team!

  • This makes me so motivated to jump on some housing projects I’ve been tinkering with- I love your ideas, lady!

After seeing what you’ve done so far – I cannot wait to see the afters of these – you have the best home style!

  • I can’t wait to see how they all turn out! Send some of your motivation (and decorating skills) my way! My plan is to just slightly touch up our kitchen this spring, but even that seems so daunting to me!

    • Don’t be intimidated by it! Just take your time and make sure you really know what you want before you start .. that’s my best advice. πŸ™‚

  • Loved interviewing you for that Pella post! Hoping to stay connected and feature more of your lovely projects as time goes on. Take care and I’ll be in touch!!

  • aw congrats at being interviewed by Pella and having them share your post! we looked into them when we were looking at replacing windows but didn’t end up doing it. maybe when we get a new house. can’t wait to follow along in 2017 and see what you all do with these projects.

    • Thanks, girl! It’s crazy what a new sliding door did for holding in the heat in the kitchen/family room. The old one was basically useless and explains why I was cold all the time.

  • We’ve been talking for a while about doing some landscaping in our backyard, but haven’t gotten around to it yet. And yes to redoing your closet! I’ve been thinking that I need something in my closet to help get me organized!

    • I cannot wait to redo our closet! It has these huge, dark oak shelves in there right now that aren’t functional at all. I can’t wait to get it more organized and looking more pretty!
