Raise your hand if you ever have trouble relaxing at the end of the day. I’m pretty sure all of us have our hands up! Especially as women, we wear many different hats throughout the day that we’re usually stressed, exhausted, whatever by the end of the work day. And, it’s not always easy to transition to a different mindset. That’s why today I’m sharing three ways to unwind after a long day. No gimmicks, no difficult steps to follow. Just straight-forward, easy ideas to help you relax and reset.

TAKE A BATH OR SHOWER.

There’s seriously few things that I look forward to more than a shower at the end of the day. Even if I’m not washing my hair, it’s a few minutes that I can be left alone to calm down and clear my head. I also take the opportunity to indulge in using some shower shower products that I don’t use on the daily. #Treatyoself, right?

THROW ON YOUR FAVORITE PAIR OF SWEATS OR PAJAMAS.

What better way to relax than to slip out of your work clothes or skinny jeans and into your favorite lounge-wear? I don’t know about you, but I kind of live for this time of day. Come 5 p.m., no matter what I’m in the middle of doing I almost always take a break to put sweatpants on. The simple change of clothes instantly puts me in a more relaxed, comfortable mindset.

DO SOMETHING FOR YOU.

After a long day (or really, any type of day), I’m a firm believer in a little “me” time. No matter what it is – reading, cooking, watching TV, knitting, etc. – indulging in something that’s solely for you can help to get your mind off the day’s earlier activities to settle in for a chill evening. A glass of vino during your chosen activity and/or doggy snuggles usually doesn’t hurt either.

The best part about my three ways to unwind after a long day is that you can do them anywhere! I tend to get a little stressed when traveling, so I try to follow these three steps even when we’re away.

  • I just recently started showering at night rather than in the morning and I find myself craving that time of day now. It’s so relaxing to slip into pjs and rest after rushing around all day. ah such bliss.

    I’ve noticed recently I sleep so much better when I take an evening shower (even though I shower in the morning) and do a mask! It’s amazing what consistency and a routine does!

    Relaxing doesn’t always come easy for me, but doing crochet in the evening while watching tv usually does the trick! I may try showering at night to see if that helps as well! Having Finn next week will help too!

  • Awwww hiiiiii Fin! I’m a huge proponent of a hot bath or a good shower at the end of a long day. My husband showers in the morning, but I’m all about at the end of the day. Great way to unwind, plus I feel gross after being out all day and it’s so comforting to be fresh and clean <3

  • Doggy snuggles and a glass of wine (obviously pre/post pregnancy) are definitely my favorite ways to unwind after a long day! And I have to say the best part about using public transport to get to and from work is that I have built in unwind time so I can read or take a nap or whatever!
