Since you found yourself on my about page, I guess that you want to know a bit more about me! I’m not sure why this is, but writing this page is and always has been really difficult. There’s a lot to know about a person, but I don’t want to write a novella here and have you fall asleep on your keyboard, drool and all (c’mon – we all do it) while I try to sum up every last detail of my ordinary Midwest life.
It’s a weird thing to write an entire page dedicated to yourself as if other people actually are going to be interested to read it, but I know that I always check out another blogger’s about page first thing so I can start to connect with them more personally. So, if that’s how you feel about me, here are a few highlights and details that best sum me up!
WHY DID I START A BLOG?
In 2013, my life was turned upside down – I left my job of three and a half years to relocate to a different state with my then-fiance (now husband!), and I also was in the midst of planning a wedding. I wanted a place to document all the wedding details, as well as to have a creative outlet for things in life that I was passionate about. Well, I failed to realize at the time just how much time and work blogging takes, so I took a break and relaunched in February 2014 when I/we were a bit more settled. Now this blog is my very-favorite (and most time-consuming) hobby where I can come to share all my favorite things related to beauty, style and general life stuff.
WHERE DID THE NAME, “MISS IN THE MIDWEST”, COME FROM?
Well, the easiest way to answer this question is to talk about where I’m from. So, onto the next question!
WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
As I like to say: I was born and raised in Illinois, I grew up in Iowa, and I found a home in Wisconsin. My family still lives in a suburb right outside Chicago, and when I graduated high school, I left for Des Moines, Iowa, where I graduated from Drake University (home of the Drake Relays and Beautiful Bulldog contest), and became a full-blown living/breathing/working adult. In 2013, we relocated to Wisconsin where we moved three times before finding and purchasing our first house in Fond du Lac. While this city certainly wasn’t at the top of my list of living locations, I’ve learned to embrace the small town atmosphere and officially call it home.
ARE YOU A FULL-TIME BLOGGER?
Ha, I wish! But, this is what I’m always curious to know about other bloggers, so I figure I might as well answer the question myself. I am, however, fortunate enough to work from home as a freelance writer.
WHAT IS YOUR DREAM JOB?
I used to have aspirations of moving to California and becoming a correspondent for E! News. But, these days, I settle for being the first-to-know about pop culture news and sharing it with my closest family and friends.
WHO TAKES YOUR PHOTOS?
Lucky for me, my husband, Ryan, is my part-time blog photographer in addition to his own career (he’s a pharmacist!). It definitely helps me be more comfortable in front of the camera when the person behind it is constantly making me laugh and making me feel better about my insecurities. None of what I do on the blog here would be possible without his love and support!
WHAT IS YOUR DOG’S NAME, AND WHAT KIND OF BREED IS HE?
Oh, Finley – he is our “first born” and the love of our life. We usually call him Finn for short, but on any given day, I also call him Finnigan, Finneroo, Finny, etc. We found him through a local rescue organization and brought him home when he only was eight weeks old. Because of the conditions that he was rescued from, we aren’t 100% sure about his breed, but we were told that he is part Miniature Schnauzer, part Labrador. He is full-grown at 25 pounds and the best companion!
IF YOU ONLY COULD EAT ONE FOOD FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Kraft Mac & Cheese, no question. It has to be Kraft brand, though. I’ve tried every other brand and generic version out there – Kraft really is the best.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MOVIE?
Singin’ in the Rain.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE BOOK?
Little Women by Louisa May-Alcott. Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice is a close-second (so cliche, I know).
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE TV SHOWS?
I watch way too much TV for it to be considered healthy, but I’d have to say that my top three shows (ever) include Full House, Downton Abbey and Gilmore Girls. Honorable mentions go to Parenthood and Mad Men.
WHAT IS YOUR ALL-TIME FAVORITE ALBUM?
It’s a tie between Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band by The Beatles and Tapestry by Carole King.
WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN FIVE YEARS?
I hope to be a momma with a little babe crawling around, probably driving Finley nuts with jealousy. But mainly, I just want to be happy with my husband and the life that we continue to build together. Life is too short, and we can miss it if we’re too busy making plans.
